The ONCE promotes research and scientific stu-dies in order to contribute to the social unders-tanding of responsible gambling and the pro-blems linked to disordered gambling. In this regard, a collaboration agreement was signed with the Complutense University of Ma-drid in 2020 for the creation of the “Extraordi-nary Chair of Research on Responsible Gambling and its Communication”, renewing this agree-ment in 2023, a year in which several milesto-nes stand out: Keep reading Keep reading Keep reading Participation in the 2nd International Con-gress on Communication and Health to ex-plain how the ONCE communicates and projects social health to society through actions and through the values, principles and best practices of Responsible Gam-bling. Research and Master’s Thesis projects ai-med at undergraduate and postgraduate students that are open to the concept of Responsible Gambling, youth, new techno-logies and, in general, a new digital ecosys-tem. Development of the first “Hackathon” on responsible gambling, aimed at students of any degree or master’s degree from Com-munication or Information Science faculties throughout Spain, with 14 submissions. Participation in the FEJAR Scientific Con-ference on Responsible Gambling “Dialo-gues for Change: Communication and Pre-vention in Youth”. Preparation and presentation of the re-search project “Activity of the prefrontal cortex as a biomarker in problematic gam-bling disorders” to compete for the call for grants for the development of research ac-tivities related to the prevention of gam-bling disorders. On the other hand, the commitment to Res-ponsible Gambling during 2023 crystallised in: Continuous improvement of the risk analy-sis tool - in its design and content - with which new or modified products were stu-died, resulting in a portfolio of products with an acceptable level of risk. More than 50 products were ratified. The “JuegosONCE.es” website sets inter-nationally recognised limiting features to minimise risk behavioural patterns. In this regard, the following actions stand out: Specific section on responsible gam-bling, called “Safer Gambling”, for con-sultation and information for the pla-yer, permanently revised to adapt it to current regulations, and specifically to the obligations of RD 176/2023 on “Sa-fer Gambling Environments”. It includes aspects such as the self-diagnosis test; additional advice on how to play respon-sibly and useful recommendations for enjoying a prize; reference to FEJAR for advice on pathological gambling; modi-fication of deposit limits or balance top-ups; the option to exclude oneself from gambling on the “JuegosONCE.es” web-site or a link to exclude oneself from all regulated gambling by registering in the General Register of Gambling Access Prohibitions (RGIAJ), among others. Monitoring and evaluation of parame-ters to identify and minimise risk beha-viour patterns, such as measurement of average time spent on the website; visits to the self-diagnosis questionnaire; and number of users reaching spending and recharge limits. Modification of the Protocol for the de-tection of disordered gambling beha-viour (Risk Behaviour) as a consequence of the RD on “Safer Gambling Environ-ments”, which incorporated even more restrictive measures than those origina-lly implemented in 2021. This Protocol allows the player classified as “at risk” to redirect their behaviour, returning to the “no risk” situation without restricti-ve measures and, if their “at risk” beha-viour persists, they would move up to the fourth level, the maximum level, in which case their player account would be suspended for three months, making it impossible for them to continue pla-ying. The highest score was obtained in the de-gree of alignment (100%) in the audit of the “JuegosONCE.es” website following the pa-rameters of the EL Responsible Gambling Standard. Training in ‘responsible gambling’ for new recruits, staff, sales teams and administrati-ve management structures of the territorial centres and distributors of the CFC (Com-plementary Physical Channel), with special emphasis on sales agents, reinforcing key elements such as the prohibition of gam-bling for minors, indications to identify ex-cessive behaviour, information for referral to treatment centres for people with gam-bling disorders, etc. Reinforcement communications to sales agents through the Point of Sale Terminal (POS) and the publication of articles in in-ternal media The ONCE has adopted the Guidelines for responsible gambling best practices related to marketing and commercial communica-tions based on RD 958/2020 on commer-cial communications for gambling activi-ties, and on the best practices of the WLA, which ensure that commercial strategies and advertising campaigns offer players a safe and responsible context, paying spe-cial attention to the most vulnerable groups, such as minors. All TV commercial campaigns have under-gone a pre-broadcast evaluation (Copy Ad-vice) by Autocontrol. Commercial communications, pre-printed products and other tickets carry messages related to responsible gambling under the warnings “+18” and “Play Responsibly” In accordance with the privacy policy of the “JuegosONCE.es” website, the sending of commercial communications by electronic means requires the prior and express con-sent of the person, revocable at any time In collaboration with FEJAR (Spanish Fe-deration of Rehabilitated Gamblers) we hi-ghlight the following actions: Participation in the annual FEJAR Con-gress on new forms of pathological gam-bling and its impact on young people, as well as in the forum “Jornadas Cien-tíficas FEJAR”, with national and inter-national experts, on the importance of Communication in the so-called “New Urban Tribes”.
